Celebrating Excellence

The Nassau County Council of School Superintendents honored valedictorians and salutatorians from Nassau public high schools for their outstanding academic achievements during its annual Celebrating Excellence Breakfast at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on June 2.

The Class of 2023 honorees were joined at the breakfast by their superintendents, principals and family members. A musical performance in the lobby featured the Roosevelt High School String Ensemble under the direction of Mr. Josef Christ. Members of the Westbury High School JROTC greeted and directed guests as they arrived. Students from Garden City High School Chamber Choir under the direction of Mr. Steve Mayo performed the national anthem and “Let My Love Be Heard” arranged by Jake Runestad.

Dr. Dominick Palma, superintendent of Merrick School District and president of NCCSS, welcomed guests and praised students for their accomplishments.

Keynote speaker Miranda Beard, an author, award-winning broadcast journalist and president of B & B Consultants Inc., shared experiences that have helped her grow and assured students they are not sitting where they are by accident. She acknowledged their hard work and dedication to their academics.

As the superintendents who serve on the Celebrating Excellence Committee announced the names of each valedictorian and salutatorian along with their college plans each received a plaque to commemorate their outstanding achievement.
